چکیده
A case of endocarditis caused by Megasphaera elsdenii is reported. This anaerobic grim-negative coccus has rarely been associated with human infections and has not previously been described as a cause of endocarditis.

Whole-Genome Sequence of a Megasphaera elsdenii Strain Isolated from the Gut of a Healthy Indian Adult Subject
Megasphaera elsdenii has been previously reported in the gut of ruminating animals. Its role as an animal probiotic is being investigated, specifically from the perspective of enhancing animal productivity. Herein, we report the draft genome sequence of M. elsdenii strain indica isolated from the stool sample of a healthy Indian subject.
متن کاملCatabolism of Amino Acids by Megasphaera elsdenii LC1.
The amino acids in an acid hydrolysate of casein were catabolized more extensively by Megasphaera elsdenii than those in an enzymic hydrolysate. Threonine and serine were most actively degraded, but no resultant increase in growth yield occurred. Branched-chain volatile fatty acid production, which increased as the dilution rate of a glucose-limited chemostat decreased, seemed to be associated ...
متن کاملCell envelope morphology of rumen bacteria.
The cell walls of three species of rumen bacteria (Bacteroides ruminicola, Bacteroides succinogenes, and Megasphaera elsdenii) were studied by a variety of morphological methods. Although all the cells studied were gram-negative and had typical cytoplasmic membranes and outer membranes, great variation was observed in the thickness of their peptidoglycan layers. Megasphaera elsdenii evidenced a...
متن کاملPresence of lactate dehydrogenase and lactate racemase in Megasphaera elsdenii grown on glucose or lactate.
Activity of D-lactate dehydrogenase (D-LDH) was shown not only in cell extracts from Megasphaera elsdenii grown on DL-lactate, but also in cell extracts from glucose-grown cells, although glucose-grown cells contained approximately half as much D-LDH as DL-lactate-grown cells. This indicates that the D-LDH of M. elsdenii is a constitutive enzyme. However, lactate racemase (LR) activity was pres...
